House music, chatter, clanking of cutlery, laughter and the odd shout from happy children. This is what met me when I walked into Le Chateau Brasserie Belge for the Bottomless Brunch and Bubbly last Sunday. The all you can eat brunch happens every last Sunday of the month. I was finally getting round to sitting down to experience it – and I was not disappointed.
I’m going to jump right in and let you know that the food was SUPERB. I can safely say that they probably have the best tasting brunch in Kampala. It might have something to do with the fact that the brunch numbers are not as large, meaning the chef’s have the capability to pack one heck of a punch into the food’s flavour, or it could just be that they have some real talent in the kitchen, I don’t know, and I don’t care, because whatever they are doing is working wonders for them.
I felt like I was on a little bit of a food adventure, because I went from tasting croissants (France) to pasta (Italy) to Mac ‘N’ Cheese (USA) and the list goes on. You name it, I ate it. I’m laughing when I remember how Cat (our older sister who was my date) and I served up to the halfway point of the buffet and promised to come back for the other half after we had cleared our plates, because who walks into a restaurant and serves a mountain of food. Needless to say, we could not make it back for more because we were full to capacity and yet we still managed to miraculously make some space for dessert!
I want to talk a little bit about the service. Cat came along with her kids. We needed to have high stools for them, and those were brought to us in an instant. They wanted soda’s and those were given to them. The staff particularly the one guy who served us was attentive to our needs despite the fact that the restaurant was full to the brim and literally everyone had something they wanted him to get them. There was even a lady who set up a bubble blowing station where I knew I could count on finding my niece and nephew.
In a nutshell, I applaud the world class standard of food in this restaurant, the detail and thinking that went into the ambiance and its setting, but mostly the impeccable service, and everyone’s unwavering ability to make us feel welcome.
Till next week,
